Herbal Medicine For Cold

Many people on the hunt for nutritional supplements are concerned about what kind of herbal medicine for cold sicknesses are offered. From the period of November until March, cold season sets in and it can really ruin your day. While there isn’t too much of a clear determinant about how to cure a cold, your best bet is to try to ward it off before it even strikes you.

Once you already have the flu, there are herbal remedies, supplements, and vitamins that can help to curb the effects of the bug or hasten its departure, but there’s no surefire cure for the common cold. One of the best ways to avoid getting the flu would be to keep the healthiest immune system you possibly can. The stronger your immune system is, the better chance your body will merely brush off pesky bugs. This can be accomplished through the use of many different substances.

Your Guide To Horse Chestnut Extract

Horse chestnut extract is a less-talked about herbal supplement that can be very beneficial to your health. Coming from the horse chestnut herb, it has shown a wide variety of applications as a supplement. It harbors anti-inflammatory properties which act as anti oxidants and help to protect your body from the harmful effects that free radicals can have by breaking down your body’s cell walls. Because of its anti inflammatory properties, it has been used to treat hemorrhoids.

Its landmark feature, however, has to do with your veins. Horse chestnut extract has been shown to help improve vein health by eliminating such symptoms as pain, lethargy, and heaviness in the legs that come with poor vein health. Many people take horse chestnut extract for its ability to help varicose veins, the unsightly condition caused by fragile blood vessels and poor circulation. A compound known as aescin is found in horse chestnut extract, which appears to ‘patch up’ tiny leaks in blood vessels and capillaries, improving their health, strength, and elasticity. If you are beginning to think about taking horse chestnut extract yourself, it’s important to start on the right path. Make sure you buy only pharmaceutical grade horse chestnut extract, which should contain somewhere between 15 and 20 percent aescin. A commonly used dosage for the extract is 50mg per supplement.

Natural Sources For Vitamins

For those who are interested in keeping up their health by taking vitamins, it is important to know that the naturally occurring vitamins found in organic sources far outweigh the potency of synthetically designed vitamins. As an example, beta carotene, an important plant form of Vitamin A, and one of the best natural sources for vitamins, has proven time and time again in clinical trials to be superior to its synthetic alternative. One trial of note which included the effect of Vitamin A on tumors resulted in the natural beta carotene’s result far outweighing that of the synthetic. While the tumor disappeared in the natural beta carotene-tested subject, the synthetic version had little to no result.

This is surefire proof that the natural forms of vitamins can be vastly more effective. While getting your vitamins from a healthy diet seems like the best idea, it can be tougher than it sounds. For one, in the western world, our fast paced lives have often resulted in poor diets with vitamin negligent foods. In addition, the modern farming methods in place and poor soil nutrition have resulted in many of the foods we eat losing their nutritional value. One case in point has to be the detriment of the potato’s nutritional content. In the past 50 years, the potato has lost 100% of its Vitamin A content, 57% of its Vitamin C and iron content, 28% of its calcium content, 50% of its riboflavin content, and 18% of its thiamine content. Of seven nutrients tested, the only one in which the potato had risen in levels was niacin. Ways to solve this problem include eating the best organic fruit money can buy.

Our Guide To Omega 3 Capsules

Omega 3 capsules are a veritable horn-of-plenty when it comes to positive health effects. One of the most researched and effective supplements available, omega 3 fatty acids have been linked to reducing the risk of coronary disease, helping type 2 diabetes patients utilize the natural insulin occurring in their bodies, preventing on the onset of type 2 diabetes, ease the symptoms of depression, bipolar disorder, and ADHD, as well as a host of other beneficial effects. It’s been known to improve the functioning of memory, help prevent strokes, and improve overall general health.

A tragic problem with the traditional western diet would be its lack of omega 3 fatty acids. An essential fatty acid discovered in the 1970s, omega 3 helps your body build healthy cells by assisting the construction of healthy cell walls. However, our bodies cannot naturally produce the omega 3 acid. We must get it from an outside source, and tragically, modern farming methods and changes in the traditional American diet have made it hard to get your daily dose of omega 3. For this reason, many people have gone to taking omega 3 capsules or omega 3 pills to meet their daily need. Supplements, however, are not a magical answer to your lack of omega 3. There are three different kinds of omega 3 acids – alpha-linolenic acid, or ALA, eicosapentaeonic acid, or EPA, and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Before your body can use ALA, it must convert it to EPA and DHA. The body sometimes has trouble doing this, especially in the elderly. For that reason, it’s definitely important to know that you’ll be getting the full effect of the omega 3 by purchasing a supplement that contains EPA and DHA rather then the unprocessed ALA.

Our Guide To Perilla Oil

Perilla oil, hailing from the seeds of the Perilla frutescens plant which is found in China, India, and Japan, is an excellent source of Omega 3 fatty acids. Oil that comes from the Perilla plant contains copious amounts of a substance known as Alpha Linolenic Acid, or ALA. ALA is one of the several types of Omega 3 fatty acids, a key nutrient to the human body.

Two of the most prominent Omega 3 fatty acids on the market are EPA and DHA, which can be found in the bodies of fish. However, since fish have been living in a polluted environment, many people prefer getting their Omega 3s from a fish oil supplement. The Perilla plant is one of the best-known plants for producing ALA. The great news is that ALA is changed into EPA and DHA inside the body, allowing you to get all the nutrition you’d get from fish oil! However, many scientists have battled this idea, saying that the production of EPA and DHA from the ALA takes place in limited quantities, if at all. For that reason, many scientists recommend simply, a fish oil supplement as opposed to Perilla oil. That’s not to say that Perilla oil does not have its own benefits. For instance, it may reduce inflammation of the blood, which is known as a leading cause of cardiovascular disease. It also may suppress early colon cancer, and inhibit blood clots from forming.

Psyllium Husk Review

Psyllium husk - - what is it? Psyllium husk is an herbal supplement taken by many to get the fiber they need for their diet. Psyllium husks are the coating around the seed of the psyllium plant. While the seeds are used for their own herbal values, the husks are usually harvested and placed into capsules to be taken in supplement form.

A dietary intake of certain fibers has been shown through studies to alleviate the risks of colon cancer, and the fibers are also known to help ease constipation. Psyllium plays a role in promoting colon health since poor waste elimination by the body can result in a buildup of waste byproducts in the body. The waste byproducts can then lead to bacteria and viruses attacking your colon, compromising your immune system and creating sickness in the body. For this reason, regular normal bowel movements can be crucial to maintaining proper health. Other benefits of regular bowel movements can be their promotion of weight loss, and a chance at lowering low density lipoproteins, the "bad' type of cholesterol.

Side Effects Of Coq10

Many people wonder at the question, are there side effects of COQ10? It is a known fact that many nutritional supplements that have various positive health effects on the body also are sometimes known to have side effects. As an overall substance, COQ10 appears to be one of the safest nutrients. Our bodies even naturally produce the COQ10 substance and we can sometimes suffer deficiencies when our body is not producing enough. As the body ages, our natural COQ10 production levels tend to decline. For this reason, many people across the world are turning to COQ10 supplements to meet their body’s needs.

Of course, the potential side effects of COQ10 are an important factor to consider, as is the case with any supplement you begin taking. While no recommended daily allowance of COQ10 has ever been established, experts tend to agree that a dosage between 30 milligrams to 100 milligrams per day is sufficient. People who suffer from conditions such as angina, congestive heart failure, Parkinson’s disease, or kidney failure, are often found using higher dosage, somewhere in the ballpark of 150 milligrams to 200 milligrams per day. Doses of up to 400 milligrams per day have been reported with no significant side effects, but it is generally not recommended to take a dosage this extreme.

Vitamin Potency Comparison

If you’re looking for a vitamin potency comparison, you’re in the right place. We’ve created this article to let you know all the factors that go into the potency of a supplement. One thing that’s important to know is that you must take a lot more into account than simply the amounts of which vitamins and nutrients a supplement contains. Many factors weigh into play, with one principal one being the quality of the nutrient you are receiving. 5 grams of a certain passion flower may be ridiculously ineffective to a higher-quality 1 gram passion flower supplement. It is a well known fact that many vitamin companies mislead about the potency of the ingredients in their supplements.

One supplement that varies more than most is beta carotene. A form of vitamin A, the active ingredient in beta carotene may be present in as little as a few percent to well up to 95% of the compound. Facts like this make it clear that a vitamin potency comparison is a crucial move when searching for the right supplement. Synthetic beta carotene can cost as little as $60 per kilo while pharmaceutical grade beta carotene can reach prices upwards of $2,400 US dollars. Another important factor to weigh in would be the manufacturing technique. It is crucial to be sure that your supplements are being created in a pharmaceutical GMP compliant facility. These facilities have strict standards to adhere to, making your supplements safer and usually more effective than the non-compliant facilities.

What Is Rutin

Many people wonder, what is rutin? A much talked-about supplement, rutin is a nutrient that we’ve classified as a bioflavinoid. Bioflavinoids have been becoming more and more popular recently, for they have been attributed to a large number of positive health effects. Other bioflavinoids, such as quercitin and hesperidin, are very similar in composition to rutin. Many experts have come to agree that rutin and quercitin in fact “work together” by complementing each other. For this reason, its recommended that rutin and quercitin are taken together.

Now that we know the answer to “What is rutin”, we can begin to talk more about the supplement and how it can help you. Bioflavinoids are water soluble compounds that can be found in such sources as citrus fruits, rosehips, and other plant materials. Rutin can benefit your health because it may harbor antioxidant properties. Antioxidants help to shield your body from the harmful effects of cells known as ‘free radicals’, highly reactive chemical compounds that can damage your cell walls if left unchecked. Rutin may also harbor anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties. This is a very useful effect, for inflammation is a problem with many diseases.

Until recently, people who had old stretch marks had very little hope of being able to successfully treat their skin condition. Laser surgery for the treatment of stretch marks involves using lasers to repair the skin’s natural synthesis of collagen. This is what most topical solutions available on the market aim to do to treat stretch marks. The reason laser surgery stretch mark removal is much more successful is associated with the direct treatment of the underlying levels of the skin. Other products on the market are applied to the top layer of the skin and are absorbed in the skin, but do not penetrate to the layer where collagen is produced.

Occasionally women develop signs of hair loss or baldness when estrogen levels drop.

Why Laser Hair Removal?

For nearly 10 years now, medical lasers have been used for such things as tattoo removal, clearing up acne scars and other blemishes, and removing dark spots on the skin. Now they are increasing being approved by the FDA and used for such things as wrinkle removal, tooth whitening, and hair removal.

Is it really permanent? Many laser hair removal providers tout their processes as “painless” or “permanent.” The FDA says there must be enough evidence to support those claims and it is actually giving some manufacturers authorization to state “permanent hair reduction” but not “removal.” Be careful if you select a provider who says their process is permanent and painless. If you have the manufacturer and model number of the laser, you can directly call or write the FDA to see if they have approval for medical use.

One criterion that needs to be evaluated is the color of your skin and hair and how it can impact the laser hair removal treatment. Light skin color is best suited for this treatment as it makes the entry of the laser at the skin surface easier and can react more positively. This enhanced productivity of laser treatment for hair removal on light skin implies that the number of treatment sessions and the related cost-thereof is lower than otherwise. For darker skin however, the treatment takes proportionally longer more in time of a single session as well as the total number of sessions required. The laser treatment itself is a little more delicate operation than usual and hence will require sufficient skill and equipment capability for darker skin.

Quick Hair Removal Solutions: Understanding How Laser Hair Removal Works

The quintessential quick hair removal solution is beyond doubt laser hair removal today. A clinically precise technology with diverse applicability available at a price that wont blow a hole in your pocket will be a rocketing success. laser hair removal surely is showing signs of being just that.

The fundamental question is of course as a quick hair removal solution how exactly does laser hair removal work its magic? A root analysis is important even for the least discerning seeker of hair removal solutions. Here is the inside dope on this marvelous technology: Human hair grows from under the base of the skin where the bulb of the hair is situated. To permanently inhibit this growth, the bulb needs to be destabilized, some thing that permanent hair removal solutions such as laser hair removal do. Hair growth occurs in phases, and the ‘active phase’ of growth is when the bulb destabilization yields long term results, and therefore laser hair removal is commonly done as a series of treatments.

Why You Have Hair Loss

Hair is the fastest growing tissue of the body, made up of proteins called keratins. Every strand of hair is made up of three layers: the inner layer or medulla (only present in thick hairs); the middle layer or cortex, which determines the strength, texture, and color of hair; and the cuticle, which protects the cortex.

Hair grows from roots, which are enclosed in follicles. Below this is a layer of skin called the dermal papilla, which is fed by the bloodstream carrying nourishments vital to the growth of hair. Only the roots of hair are actually alive, while the visible part of hair is dead tissue, and therefore unable to heal itself.

Vitamins and Minerals You Need To Reduce Hair Loss

Some common myths have arisen concerning hair loss. Because of medical advancements many of these myths are being corrected. For starters, although androgenetic alopecia, pattern baldness, is genetic and can be hereditary, it is not passed down through only your mother’s side of the family. Either side of the family can pass down the genetic disposition toward baldness. Also, contrary to old family tales, wearing hats does not cause baldness either.

Most common hair loss comes under what has been commonly known as Male Pattern Baldness (MPB). Although referred to as MPB, females also suffer from MPB, so it is better to call MPB androgenetic alopecia.

Lack of Iodine and Silica Can Create Hair Loss

Iodine is vital to your hair growth. Sheep farmers long ago found that vegetation-lacking iodine due to iodine-depleted soil would adversely affect the growth of wool in their sheep. Likewise, to avoid hair loss, you need iodine. Iodine is synthetically added to table salt, however in this form it is not assimilated well into your body and can therefore cause iodine overload.

An excess of iodine in the body can adversely affect the thyroid. The lack of iodine can cause hypothyroidism. In hypothyroidism, your cell metabolism slows down and body cells and hair cells don’t receive the energy they need to function properly. When you lack iodine, you will lose more hair than normal and may even lose eyebrow hair.

Androgenetic Alopecia or even "male pattern hair loss" is implicated in ninety five percent of hair loss cases. The key is a hormonal byproduct called DHT (dihydrotestostrone). Follicular Grouping the Innovative Hair Transplant Technique

Experiments performed by the hair transplant surgeon Dr Seager in 1996 gave significant credence to the surgical technique of unit follicular hair transplant. Since these experiments had demonstrated that the survival rate of intact follicular unit was better than the single hair micro-grafts, the use of micro-grafts for hair transplant surgery was more or less dropped. Although the results of surgical hair restoration with the use of follicular unit transplants were sound and aesthetically pleasing, this form of hair transplant surgery suffered from drawback of requiring a long time period (6-8 hr) to complete a transplant session. It involved teams of highly skilled assistants for the hair transplant procedure of separating the follicular units. As the procedure required long time and much skill the procedure was proving to be very costly to the patient. The surgical damage caused to the follicle when two follicular units extremely close together were dissected apart, also started to affect the results of Hair Restoration Surgery.

A reduced success in follicular unit transplantation was more frequent in hair restoration surgeries that were being performed by hair transplant surgeons undertaking follicular unit transplant surgery only infrequently. The fact was of much concern to the professional hair transplant surgeon. The primary reason for a reduced success rate was that the assistants of the hair transplantation surgeon lacked the expertise and experience in correctly isolating single follicular units and dissecting them at a fast pace.

Helping Hair Loss with Nutrition

Hair loss is now a very common condition but the exact cause of hair loss is still a mystery. Some intellectual thinking has linked hair loss with the lack of iron, the condition of the skin on the scalp and an underactive thyroid gland. The hair, although it is thought of as dead, is a good indicator of general health and it is the first indicator that shows signs of ill health or lack of essential vitamins and minerals within the body. Oily hair can be a sign of vitamin B deficiency, brittle or dry hair can be an indicator of essential fats deficiency, dull hair colour and poor growth can be signs of zinc deficiency and hair loss can indicator lack in vitamin C, vitamin B1, iron and lysine. Grey hair has no link with nutritional deficiency and can not be reversed with good nutrition.

To avoid hair loss and have good healthy hair, a good nutritional diet is needed. This diet needs to be rich in organic whole foods such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish, eggs, beans, nuts and seeds which are a rich source of vital nutrients needed for healthy hair roots and the protein keratin. Try not to skip meals, reduce salt, sugar, tea, coffee and chocolate intake, avoid stress, comb your hair gently and avoid using strong chemicals on your hair such as perms and colour treatments. Vegetarians are prone to hair loss because their diet generally lack in the important nutrients, vitamin B12, iron and lysine. Vegetarians need to be aware of this and supplement their diet. As we grow older hair naturally decreases but this process can be slowed by massaging the scalp to stimulate the flow of blood, nutrients and oxygen to the hair follicles. Another method to improve circulation in the scalp that some individuals use is to hang upside down for short period of time per day . The following supplements may help if you are suffering from hair loss.

Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes affects the manner in which the body handles digested carbohydrates. If neglected, diabetes can cause serious health complications, ranging from blindness to kidney failure.

Approximately 8% of the population in the United States has diabetes. This means that approximately 16 million people have been diagnosed with the disease, based only on national statistics. The American Diabetes Association estimates that diabetes accounts for 178,000 deaths, 54,000 amputees, and 12,000-24,000 cases of blindness annually. Blindness is 25 times more common among diabetic patients compared to nondiabetics. It is proposed that by the year 2010, diabetes will exceed both heart disease and cancer as the leading cause of death through its many complications.

Diabetes Facts and Statistics

What is it?

Diabetes is a disease where the body cannot properly produce or use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that turns the foods you eat into energy. If your body cannot turn food into energy, not only will your cells be starved for energy, you will also build up glucose (sugar) in your blood. This will lead you to have "high blood glucose levels." Over years, the high blood glucose level can damage major organs like your heart, eyes, and kidneys.

Man's Waist Size May Predict Risk of Developing Type 2 Diabetes

New studies concluded that man's waist size may predict much more about his risk of developing type 2 diabetes type than any other used measures. Currently doctors use body mass index (BMI) a measure of weight in relation to height to estimate a patient's risk of developing type 2 diabetes and advise him how to lower his risk, such as by losing weight and changing their diet.

Many opinions say that men should have a waist size of less than 40 inches to help prevent developing of health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. But recent medical observations say the cutoff for a man's waist size may need to be lowered to 34 inches. As waist size climbed above this level, type 2 diabetes risk rose progressively, as follows:

  • waist size of 34 to 36 doubled diabetes risk.
  • waist size of 36 to 38 inches nearly tripled the risk.
  • waist size of 38 to 40 inches was associated with five times the risk.
  • waist size of 40 to 62 inches was associated with 12 times the risk.

Health, Medicine, and Glyconutrition: The Future Isn't What It Used to Be

This is what they call "Hope"?

We've all gotten used to the idea that certain maladies will be around for a while…like until the Second Coming. Maladies such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis…and many more are expected to be around, in epidemic proportions, longer than we think we will be alive…and anyone who tries to tell us otherwise is looked upon with real skepticism. In fact, when anyone tries to tell us "there's hope" for such maladies as, say, diabetes, we are more likely to believe that the person is trying to sell us something…and usually we are right.

Diabetes and Exercise

There are two main types of diabetes, type I and type II. Type I diabetes is characterized by the pancreas making too little or no insulin. An individual with diabetes type I will have to inject insulin throughout the day in order to control glucose levels. Type II diabetes, also known as adult onset diabetes, is characterized by the pancreas not producing enough insulin to control glucose levels or the cells not responding to insulin. When a cell does not respond to insulin, it is known as insulin resistance. When a subject is diagnosed with type II diabetes, exercise and weight control are prescribed as measures to help with insulin resistance. If this does not control glucose levels, then medication is prescribed. The risk factors for type II diabetes include: inactivity, high cholesterol, obesity, and hypertension. Inactivity alone is a very strong risk factor that has been proven to lead to diabetes type II. Exercise will have a positive effect on diabetes type II while improving insulin sensitivity while type I cannot be controlled be an exercise program. Over 90% of individuals with diabetes have type II.

Exercise causes the body to process glucose faster, which lowers blood sugar. The more intense the exercise, the faster the body will utilize glucose. Therefore it is important to understand the differences in training with type I and type II diabetes. It is important for an individual who has diabetes to check with a physician before beginning an exercise program. When training with a diabetic, it is important to understand the dangers of injecting insulin immediately prior to exercise. An individual with type I diabetes injecting their normal amount of insulin for a sedentary situation can pose the risk of hypoglycemia or insulin shock during exercise. General exercise guidelines for type I are as follows: allow adequate rest during exercise sessions to prevent high blood pressure, use low impact exercises and avoid heavy weight lifting, and always have a supply of carbohydrates nearby. If blood sugar levels get too low, the individual may feel shaky, disoriented, hungry, anxious, become irritable or experience trembling. Consuming a carbohydrate snack or beverage will alleviate these symptoms in a matter of minutes.

Diabetes: So Far so Good

There was this guy who jumped off the 37th floor of a tall building. As he fell, people at each floor inside the building heard him say as he passed them, "So far, so good…so far, so good..."

Diabetes is a disease which cannot be "trusted." I know that's an odd way of putting it, but bear with me for a moment here. As a medical professional, I have dealt with countless cases of diabetes. I have always been amazed people will plan for the future as they build lives, careers, families, dreams…creating and pursuing commitments for the long term… And yet, one issue stands out consistently. People with diabetes tend to hope the disease will just "maintain itself," that it will just stay at status quo for the long term.

How Does Inhaled Insulin Work

There has been lots of research in the field of insulin administration. To keep blood sugar under control insulin is injected. Patients would prefer inhaled insulin to injected insulin especially, when sometimes you have to take up to 6 injections daily. The different targets tried for insulin delivery are through the upper airways i.e. the mouth, the nose, the skin and even as suppositories. Oral delivery is not possible due to the acidity of the stomach and the digestive enzymes of the intestines which prevent the insulin molecules to absorb into the blood. Inhaled insulin can reduce or eliminate the daily insulin injections.

There are several systems in developmental phase by different pharmaceutical firms with products like AerodoseR, AERxTM Diabetes Management System, QdoseR, and ExuberaR.

Diabetes, Recognizing the Signs, and Symptoms

Do you find yourself going to the bathroom more than usual? Are you unusually hungry or thirsty? Is fatigue a normal, everyday feeling? Does spontaneous, blurred vision interfere with you daily life? If this sounds like you, you may have Diabetes. Diabetes effects over sixteen million Americans, and many people are unaware they have it. Every day, 2,200 new cases of Diabetes are diagnosed in the United States. Diabetes is characterized by a high level of sugar in the blood, as a result of defective insulin secretion, or insulin resistance. Although we tend to group all people with Diabetes together, the truth is that there are two different types of Diabetes that are similar in their elevated blood sugar, but different in many other ways.

Type 1 Diabetes is usually diagnosed in children, and young adults. It is characterized by the Pancreas’ inability to produce insulin. It is thought that this inability arises from an autoimmune condition. Basically the body is killing its own insulin producing cells. The symptoms of type 1 Diabetes are very obvious, frequent urination, increased thirst, and weight loss. The onset is usually abrupt, and severe. In addition, having type 1 Diabetes increases your risk for many serious complications, heart disease, blindness, nerve damage, and kidney damage. Treatment consists of intermediate or long-acting insulin (taken once or twice daily) with fast- or rapid-acting insulin injections taken at mealtimes.

Type 2 Diabetes often develops rather insidiously, showing few or no symptoms. The symptoms are similar to type 1, however they develop gradually over time. This may explain why it often goes undetected at first. The cells of the body being resistant to insulin characterize the most common form of diabetes, type 2. The Pancreas still produces insulin, however the body cannot use it efficiently. Type 2 usually develops in men or women over 40 years of age, characterized by obesity, and lack of physical activity. In particular, people who are an "apple-shape" - with lots of fat around the abdomen - are at greater risk of developing diabetes. Type 2 Diabetes runs in families, and is particularly common among people of African-Caribbean or Asian origin. Similarly, having type 2 Diabetes increases your risk for many serious complications, as type 1. Unlike type 1, type 2 Diabetes can usually be controlled with diet, exercise or medicines.

If you suspect you may have Diabetes, it is important to see your doctor, especially if you fall into any of the categories previously mentioned. Discovering you have Diabetes is frightening, don't panic, people with Diabetes can live long, healthy, happy lives. Eat right and exercise. It's a simple prescription that will keep you healthy, whether you have diabetes or not.

Symptoms of Adult Diabetes How to Know a Symptom or Sign for Diabetes

The symptoms of adult diabetes are symptoms that should be recognized. Recognizing a symptom or sign for diabetes is important because diabetes is a condition that can be life-threatening. Diabetes is a disease where high levels of sugar in the blood exist, creating a symptom or sign for diabetes. Diabetes can be caused by too little insulin in the body, by the inability to use insulin or both of these. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas to regulate blood sugar levels. About 17 million persons in the USA suffer from symptoms of adult diabetes.

Understanding Diabetes

Our body needs glucose, which converts this glucose in to energy. Our body converts whatever we eat into glucose after digestion. Insulin, a hormone produced by pancreas, help glucose to enter into blood cells. There glucose in metabolized, maintaining blood glucose level. Inefficiency or loss of insulin lead to increase in glucose level in blood and it causes diabetes

The factors which are responsible for this are many like sedentary life style and irregular eating habits. Intake of junk food and calorie dense food like pizza, burger, cold drinks, cheese and French fries causes the child hood obesity and lead to obese adult. Increase in body fat leads to less production of insulin and production of other harmful toxics. Which are responsible for heart diseases, diabetes and syndrome X at young age.

Sound Healing with Tibetan Bowls

Sound healing is rapidly gaining recognition internationally as an integral part of the healing process for cancer patients. It has also been effective in relieving pain and in the treatment of stress related afflictions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, insomnia, pain and depression. Mainstream medical teaching facilities like Duke University and the University of North Carolina have added programs that link body/mind and spirit to the treatment of cancer. Cancer Prevention centers are utilizing sound as a vital part of the healing process for patients with astounding results.

I, like many healers believe that illness is a manifestation of dis-harmony within the body; an imbalance in the cells or a given organ and that healing can be achieved by restoring the normal vibratory frequencies of the diseased, out-of-harmony parts of the body. Vibrational healing, especially with sound is a potent way of restoring the body to its’ normal vibratory frequency.

Drugs Detox Simple & Effective

The process of drugs detox isn’t complicated by any means. It is an automatic process which the body does constantly to cleanse itself. Your body, at some rate at least, is detoxifying itself right now.

The human body is like one big process of input and output. Some things we intake such as food and water which the body requires diffuse into the body; we then pass the by-products which are of no use, or surplus to the body’s requirements. Drugs, on the other hand, diffuse almost entirely into the body as this is what they are designed to do.

Ergonomics: Workstation Set up Do's & Don'ts

Many of us spend most of our workday sitting at a desk working on the computer, talking on the phone, sending & receiving fax messages. Poorly designed workstations can lead to debilitating neck, back and shoulder pain. This article discusses the importance of a good ergonomically designed workstation that does not necessarily require a large investment in time or finances.

The term ERGONOMICS comes from two Greek words: ERGON which means work and NOMOI, which means natural laws. Roughly translated, ergonomics is the study of human posture and positioning as it relates to the work environment. Proper posture is the key to a healthy musculoskeletal system. Good posture leads to proper alignment of the joints supporting the system against the forces of gravity. This allows our muscles to be positioned at their mid-range where they are strongest and under minimal tension. When the body has assumed proper postural alignment less demand on the joints and the muscles is required to perform movements, thus the body conserves energy and performs daily functions more efficiently. Decreased wear and tear on the joints and surrounding structures is also reduced which is a large factor for decreasing early onset of arthritis.

Benefits of In Home Physical Therapy

There are many different settings where physical therapist practice their craft. These settings may include schools, hospitals, private outpatient clinics, nursing homes, and in private homes. Home care physical therapy is typically thought of for patients that are homebound, thus unable to commute to an outpatient clinic. There has been a new trend in physical therapy in which the clinic is brought to the patient. A few different models are currently being used. Some therapists have a mobile clinic in the form of an RV. These RV's are equipted with treatment tables, exercise equipment & all the typical modalities you would find in an outpatient clinic. A second model that is less expensive would be a therapist coming to the home with a portable treatment table, and other hand held modality equipment.
Benefits to treating patients in their home include:
- Improved compliance by not missing treatment sessions
- Therapists can evaluate a patient in their REAL natural environment.
- Patient's don't have to travel to a clinic thus making it more time efficient
- Privacy for the patient and their family
- Eliminate disruptions from other clients, phone calls etc.
- Typical in home sessions are one hour, one on one with a therapist. This allows for effective treatment sessions and reduces the possibility of injury.
- Following surgery, having a therapist come to the home may eliminate complications of driving a car or having to negotiate dangerous obstacles on your way to an outpatient clinic.
Is in-home physical therapy right for you? There are a few questions you must ask yourself before considering in home physical therapy. The first is, how do you feel about initially having a stranger in your home. After the first few minutes with a therapist, you are divulging personal information regarding your medical history. The therapist will be a stranger for only the first few minutes. Secondly, are you capable of concentrating without distractions in your home.
Minimal space is required for the therapist. They need to set up a table and may require an outlet for modalities. Therapists are typically creative with space and can take advange of a small area to achieve the required room for exercise. Most equipment required for therapy is light and portable.
In my experience, patients love the convenience of in home therapy because it is one less trip they need to take. Typically, patients can have therapy sessions very early in the morning before going to work, or late in the evening following work. The whole concept is to promote convenience and patient compliance.
Insurance coverage is dependent on the therapist. Some therapists participate in network with medicare and other comercial plans while others are out of network. It is important to communicate with the therapist prior to the first visit to find out how your treatment sessions will be covered.
In-home physical therapy is not right for everyone. If you enjoy staying close to home, have a tight time schedule to keep, and enjoy exercising out of your home, then you should consider in home physical therapy.

The First Harvest

First responders arrived at the home initially, followed soon thereafter by paramedics. We picked up the dispatch over the radio scanner and prepared our minds and equipment in trauma room one. This one was a long time coming which surprised us all since the scene was within five minutes of the ER by car. 45 minutes passed before the call came telling us they were inbound.

The ambulance pulled up to the doors and he was brought in on a stretcher. He was SOA- smurfed on arrival, or perhaps I should say cyanotic for the sake of the purists, which really means that his skin was a most unappealing shade of blue. No IV line had been started, and the rescue team were bagging as they hurried him into the ER. 45 minutes on scene, four paramedics accompanying him - the focus of the time on scene had been concentrated on CPR alternating with unsuccessful attempts to intubate.

Does Your Child Need Children's Vitamins?

This question has been has been tormenting parents all over the world. Yet, there are no easy answers to it. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)says that "a diet based on the Food Guide Pyramid provides adequate amounts of all the vitamins a child needs." But then, there are a lot of other factors that decide whether your child is getting adequate amounts of vitamins, such as the child's eating habits, composition and quality of the diets, etc.

One important thing to note here is that the quality of most foods available now has declined. The only good ones available now are organically grown food. Just look at these figures: the amount of calcium in broccoli has fallen by a whopping 50 per cent, the iron content in watercress is down by a steep 88 per cent, the vitamin C in cauliflower has fallen by a huge 40 per cent... You may not be giving your child the usual fare of refined food spiked with sugar and fat and carbohydrates. Yet, there is no guarantee that he or she is getting her required daily dose of children's vitamins.

Fish Oil Benefits 7 Major Fish Oil Health Benefits

Fish oil benefits? You bet! Fish oil health benefits are important and wide-ranging. Proven by numerous clinical studies, fish oil benefits range from brain health to heart health to pregnancy health.

Fish oil health benefits come primarily from the two Omega 3 essential fatty acids in fish oil -- DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and to a lesser extent EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). While plant sources such as flax seed will provide the body with Omega 3 oil, the body must convert it into DHA and EFA, and that conversion can be difficult for some people or for elderly people. However, fish oil provides the body with DHA and EPA in a natural form that can easily be assimilated.
